Newly obtained court documents are shedding light on a police pursuit that ended in a violent crash involving a passenger bus and left a pedestrian seriously injured Tuesday at the intersection of Hudson and Clifford avenues. According to New York State Police, the suspect driver, 42-year-old David Robinson, was driving an SUV when he crashed into with an RTS bus, which then hit a pedestrian who was pinned underneath the vehicle. The felony complaint said troopers observed Robinson failed to use his turn signal within 100 feet of a turn near Hollenbeck Street and Avenue D, prompting the pursuit. “Our community stabilization unit is out patrolling, they see a moving violation and they initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle,” explained Trooper Lynnea Crane. The complaint said a trooper attempted to pull Robinson over near Conkey Avenue using lights and sirens, but Robinson refused to stop. “The vehicle then fled and a pursuit was then initiated, and then the vehicle, I believe a little over a mile or underneath a mile, ran through a red light at the intersection and struck a bus," Crane said. The complaint said Robinson was found in possession of a loaded handgun containing six live rounds. Investigators say he does not have a legal pistol permit and is prohibited from carrying a firearm due to a previous conviction. Robinson is facing multiple charges, including: First-degree reckless endangerment Second-degree unlawful fleeing police officer in a motor vehicle Second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon Second-degree obstruction of governmental administration Several traffic law violations Crane said the woman hit by the bus is in stable condition.
