The Erl King (Schubert-Liszt) played by Ignaz Friedman (Duo-Art Audiographic roll)

Ignaz Friedman (1882-1948) was one of the great virtuoso pianists of his era, and recorded some superb piano rolls for the Duo-Art system during his first concert tour of the USA in 1920. These ranged from the energetic such as this piece through to Viennese waltzes of his own compostion. This performance was issued in April 1921. In the later 1920s the Aeolian Company in London issued a highly ambitious 'Audiographic' series of rolls which in the 'running commentary' series printed details about the music throughout the performance, preceded with an illustrated introduction. In this video I stop the roll so you can see the material. Played on my Weber model 12 grand Duo-Art Pianola piano.
