Steve Fitzhugh is a dynamic speaker and entrepreneur with expertise in nonprofit leadership, known for inspiring audiences of all ages through his engaging communication style. With over 41 years of experience impacting young adults in high schools, colleges, and universities, he shares powerful life lessons drawn from his athletic and personal journey as a former NFL free safety for the Denver Broncos, emphasizing positive choices and empowerment. Originally from Akron, Ohio, Steve was a standout hurdler at Walsh Jesuit High School and continued his athletic career at Miami University of Ohio, where he earned a B.A. in Public Administration. After a shoulder injury ended his NFL career, he earned a Master's in Religious Studies from Howard University School of Divinity and implemented a drug and alcohol prevention program on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Steve started the FCA Washington, DC office, serving as its inaugural area director for five years before helping broker the purchase of three former crack houses in Anacostia, Southeast Washington, DC. He transformed these properties into a local afterschool drop-in mission called "The House," which has provided guidance, direction, and rehabilitation to underserved youth in Washington, DC, for 26 years. He later became a full-time speaker with PowerMoves, sharing his message at prestigious venues like the White House and traveling to over 30 countries around the globe. He also serves as the national spokesperson for the "One Way 2 Play - Drug Free" program. For 11 years, Steve served as a certified NFL Transition Coach, mentoring rookies and retirees. He is a best-selling author, recording artist, poet, and master motivator, with expertise in guiding young adults, elite athletes, small businesses, nonprofits, and corporations. Recently, he completed a Corporate Board Member certification from the University of Texas. Steve and his wife, Dr. Karen Fitzhugh, have two daughters, a granddaughter, and have been married for 35 years. He lives by the mantra, "Create a moment for life-change, and any life can be changed in a moment."
