Space Fever is a 1979 arcade fixed-shooter game developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of several "Invader-type" games created to capitalize on the massive success of Taito's Space Invaders. The game follows the standard formula of the era, where the player controls a laser cannon at the bottom of the screen to defeat swarms of aliens. Unlike the original Space Invaders, Space Fever offered three distinct patterns for alien movement: Game A: Two separate blocks of aliens move in opposite directions, occasionally dropping or rising several rows at once. Game B: Aliens appear one row at a time; a new row only spawns once the previous one reaches the screen edge. Game C: The traditional Space Invaders style, where all aliens move as a single block. The original 1979 release featured a black and white raster monitor, often with a blue-tinted plastic overlay to simulate color. A true color version, Space Fever Color, followed later that year or in early 1980. Space Fever was developed by Nintendo’s R&D2 division under Masayuki Uemura, with programming and circuit design contracted to Ikegami Tsushinki. While it was a successful clone, it is often cited as a stepping stone for Nintendo before they moved toward more original titles like Sheriff and Radar Scope.
