Luke Hamel Cooke is a British Sculptor. He studied Fine Art at Falmouth University, before developing his sculptural language through mentorship from Michel François, who supported his studio practice, and from abstract expressionist painter Professor Winston Branch in London. Hamel Cooke’s work unfolds as a speculative bestiary of invented forms that feel unearthed rather than composed. His sculptures move between the tender and the defensive, seductive in their surfaces yet edged with a quiet menace. There is a forensic attention to anatomy without anatomy’s certainty, bodies appear to mutate mid-gesture, hovering between insect, human, and something unnameable. Clay becomes a carrier of memory here, matter that seems drawn up from older strata and held in the present, inviting close looking while maintaining a tension between touch and restraint. These figures carry something recognisably human within their ambiguity. They do not offer answers so much as invitations: to step into Hamel Cooke’s world and encounter forms that hold traces of memory, desire, and barely contained energy. The sculptures operate as quiet talismans that remain charged, elusive, and open to whatever the viewer is willing to discover in them.
