This is an overview lecture on Bgee (https://www.bgee.org), a curated database of gene expression in animals, including model species such as human, mouse or drosophila, and others such as primates or fishes. These data are available through a web interface, an R package, a SPARQL endpoint, and a JSON API. Bgee also includes tools which use these data, such as TopAnat or Expression Comparison, and allow integration with users' own data. The lecture presents the importance of expert curation and annotation and the type of data which are integrated in Bgee. The video was recorded live during the course “Gene expression made useful easily: tools and database of Bgee” streamed on 16 May 2025. Target audience: PhD students, postdocs and other researchers, from any scientific environment (academia, facilities, companies, etc.). Any life scientists who would need to retrieve gene expression information or obtain expression-based knowledge on genes of interest. Speaker: Marc Robinson-Rechavi, Professor at the University of Lausanne and SIB Group Leader. Any questions about this talk? Contact us at https://www.bgee.org/ or at bgee@sib.swiss
