Nestled on the former site of Sutton Manor Colliery in St Helens, Merseyside, the Dream sculpture stands as a striking tribute to the town’s coal mining heritage—and its future. Designed by renowned Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, Dream rises 20 metres into the sky, depicting the serene face of a young girl in a meditative state. Her eyes are closed, symbolising hope, contemplation, and the power of imagination beyond the industrial past. This video was captured using the DJI Mini 3 Pro, a compact but powerful drone that beautifully highlights the scale and setting of the sculpture. Filmed at sunset, the golden light bathes Dream in a warm glow, creating a peaceful and almost otherworldly atmosphere. The soft hues of the sky contrast perfectly with the white Spanish dolomite marble and concrete that make up the sculpture, enhancing its ethereal presence on the hill. Dream was unveiled in 2009 and has since become a modern icon of the North West, drawing visitors from across the country. Set within a reclaimed landscape of rolling grass and trees, it offers not just a breathtaking view, but a space for quiet reflection. From above, you can see how it rises out of the former colliery spoil heap, transforming a site of hard labour into one of serenity and inspiration. Whether you’re local to St Helens or just discovering it for the first time, Dream is a powerful reminder of the past, present, and what lies ahead. I hope this aerial footage gives you a fresh perspective on one of the UK’s most unique pieces of public art.
