Heartbreak is one of the most painful experiences, and when you live with bipolar disorder the emotional extremes can make it ten times worse. I've endured a lot of heartbreak. It’s triggered me to be manic, enhanced my highs and lows as well as caused me to act recklessly. There is nothing to erase the pain, but there are ways to not become consumed in it. In this video, I share 3 ways to cope with heartbreak when you live with bipolar disorder. 1. Surround yourself with positivity. Positive people and positive environment. Surrounding ourselves with positive words and reminding ourselves daily that everything is going to be okay. 2. Distract yourself. Get a hobby. I started collecting vintage love letters after my last heartbreak. They restored my faith in myself and love. Crosswords, writing, exercising, joining a meetup group. Keeping busy keeps those of us with bipolar disorder from being consumed by those dark emotions. 3. Stay off social media. This is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. When you live with bipolar disorder, seeing things as you scroll through social media can trigger you into a downward spiral. Get rid of it. Take a break from it. And force yourself to disconnect and reconnect with yourself. When you’re going through heartbreak, social media becomes extremely toxic; especially when you live with bipolar. What is your experience with heartbreak and bipolar? Share your ways of coping with heartbreak down below in the comment section or do a response video and send it in to info@healthyplace.com.
