East Lancashire Railway 1940s Weekend 27th to 29th May 2023 A trip back to the 1940s on the East Lancs, with plenty of additional attractions alongside passenger services. The real star of the show was Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Pug 11243 which sent the weekend running around Bury station limits with a selection of wagons including some gun carriages and a L&Y Gunpowder wagon. On the service trains, seen at Bury and Townsend Fold, were L&YR Saddletank 752 / 51456 and A Class 1300 / 52322, joined by a top n tailed Class 24 and LMS Jinty 3F 47298. A Class 104 operated an hourly Bury Bolton Street to Heywood shuttle service between trains. Bury Bolton Street station had a selection of live music over the weekend, while at the Bury Transport Museum further acts performed inside the museum which is now home to the National Collection's L&YR 18 inch gauge Wren. Outside the Bury Transport Museum were a replica Spitfire and Hurricane courtesy of War and Peace Displays. Please note, there is no public lineside access on the East Lancs, lineside shots are taken as a Working Member with Accredited Photographer status. www.preservedrailway.co.uk (C) Lee Andrew Davies 2023
