A Fall 2021 camping trip to Assateague Island. This trip begins on US-301 in Maryland’s Eastern Shore. We cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and made our way to Washington DC. We visited Fort Ward Park in Fairfax County, VA and spent the night in Alexandria. The next day we went back across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and drove through the southern part of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Along the way, we stopped to visit the Southwestern Corner of Delaware. We drove through Salisbury and Berlin before crossing the bridge onto Assateague Island. We set up our campsite, hiked around, and saw lots of ponies! These horses are feral and have existed here since the colonial area. They have adapted well to the maritime climate and are even known to swim in the summer. On the way home, we stopped through some rural areas in Central Delaware, including Little Creek, Leipsic, and Woodland Beach.
