Ekadashi is a sacred fasting day observed by devotees of Vishnu and Krishna. It falls twice a month on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the lunar cycle. On this day, many people observe a vrat (fast) to purify the mind and body, increase self-discipline, and seek spiritual blessings. Fasting on Ekadashi is believed to help in spiritual growth, controlling desires, and improving focus in prayers and meditation. Devotees avoid grains, rice, and certain regular foods. Instead, they consume falahar — light and sattvic foods like fresh fruits, milk, nuts, and vrat-friendly ingredients. Fruits are eaten because they are natural, easy to digest, and provide energy while keeping the body light during fasting. They help maintain strength throughout the day without breaking the spiritual significance of the vrat. In this video, I’m sharing a simple and beautiful Ekadashi special cut fruits platter that you can prepare as prasad, naivedyam, or for your fasting meal.
