So, I figured I would try something new for this channel, that being Java Longplays! Yeah, I have technically done a Mobile related longplay for this channel before, with it being Android emulated through BlueStacks, but I never tried doing a Mobile Java longplay before, and Kahvibreak was definitely a great pick for playing Java games! Which is why I did some Mega Man Java longplays via Kahvibreak. Though, what is Kahvibreak? Well, it's basically Flashpoint, but made for archiving every Mobile Java game you could probably think of. I did read on Reddit that some games hosted on it were potentially malicious, but those are probably false positives anyways from what I'm guessing. Anyways, this is the first version of Mega Man, released for Java Mobile phones back in 2004 by Living Mobile. And this definitely ain't a bad port! The controls were a little clunky for me to figure out due to the game originally being made for the keypad on mobile phones, but I eventually got used to it, and using an NES controller with Joy2Key definitely helps. The graphics in this port are fine, I'd say good at the very most, since even if the sprites were shrunk to heck and back in this port, they still don't look that bad in my opinion. Level design seems to be mainly original though, while still taking some level design elements from the NES game. This also means that some levels are more fair compared to the originals, so that's a plus I guess. The music in this port is also just fine to me, they get the job done for being MIDI renditions of the OST from the Mega Man NES game, only... there's one elephant in the room. They screwed up the music order! Cut Man is fine since it plays the right music, but then we have Guts Man playing Fire Man's theme, Elec Man playing Ice Man's theme, Ice Man playing Bomb Man's theme, you probably get the idea, but as someone who played the original NES game, all of the music being swapped around is just wrong. But how are the bosses? The robot master's bosses are pretty easy in this version, as you can probably take them out with only using the buster in a matter of seconds or minutes. Though, I still used the respective weaknesses sometimes. All of the Wily Bosses are here, and again, they seem much easier than the original, especially the Yellow Devil, since even though there's no Pause trick in this version, I was still able to beat him with ease compared to how it was in the NES version. But then there's the Final Wily Boss, oh man... the Final Wily Boss. Now the 1st Phase seems easy enough, but the 2nd Phase probably has the most bullcrap pattern you can think of. Sure I got used to it after so many deaths, but due to how crunched the boss is in this Java version, it makes avoiding the shots almost impossible. But man, I eventually did it, and it felt... a little awarding doing so. The Ending is a little disappointing, it would've been cool if the ending from the original NES game was ported over, but nope, instead it's just 2 or 3 screens of text, a picture of Mega Man & Roll jumping in front of the earth, and that's it. I'd still say it's worth it since the Final Boss was really hard in this version, but it ain't saying much, and it's honestly a little disappointing compared to the port that came out after this. What did I think of this port? Well, for being the 1st Java port of a Mega Man game, it's pretty good! But it is really flawed. Wrong music order, nearly impossible final boss, and a somewhat disappointing ending. But aside from those flaws, again, it definitely ain't bad for 2004 Java standards.
