Picture yourself walking through the sanctuary courtyard with the shadow of the cross falling across every step. At each station, another facet of Christ’s own character flashes like a facet of a single, perfect jewel—“the fruit of the Spirit.” Imagine a single diamond held to the light—each turn reveals a new facet, yet it remains one gem. So it is with the “fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5:22–23, KJV): one Spirit-grown character, refracting nine radiant graces. The earthly sanctuary—fulfilled in the cross of Calvary—provides a Spirit-inspired pathway for formation in Christ’s character. From the gate to the Most Holy Place, each station discloses a facet of the fruit of One Spirit, which is the Spirit of Christ (singular in KJV), which the Holy Ghost reproduces in God’s people as His living temple (Gal. 5:22–23; 1 Cor. 3:16–17; 6:19–20, KJV). Ellen G. White affirms that the sanctuary services “were all symbolic of the work of Christ” and of the cleansing and transformation He works in believers (White, Patriarchs and Prophets, “The Tabernacle and Its Services”). Thus the Spirit unifies nine graces into one Christlike life—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance—shining through redeemed humanity. The way of the sanctuary, fulfilled at the cross, is a Spirit-sketched map of transformation: at the gate we embrace temperance; at the altar we behold meekness; at the laver we exercise faith; in the holy place we are nourished into goodness, lighted into gentleness, and incensed into longsuffering; before the ark we are sealed in peace, joy, and love. One Spirit unifies these nine graces into one Christ-shaped life in a people who are His living temple (Gal. 5:22–23; 1 Cor. 3:16–17, KJV; White, Patriarchs and Prophets, “The Tabernacle and Its Services”). Appeal • “Walk in the Spirit” (Gal. 5:16, KJV). By the blood of Jesus, step through the gate and yield your appetites, habits, and time to His tempering grace (Tit. 2:11–12; 1 Cor. 9:25–27, KJV). • Come to the altar: lay down pride and take upon you the meekness of the Lamb (Phil. 2:5–8; Matt. 11:29, KJV). • Wash at the laver: trust the crucified and risen Christ—faith toward our Lord Jesus (John 19:34; Acts 20:21; Rom. 3:25, KJV). • Enter the holy place: feed daily on His Word (goodness), let your light shine in kindness (gentleness), and persevere in prayer (longsuffering) (John 6:35; Matt. 5:16; Rom. 12:12; Eph. 5:9; Gal. 5:22, KJV). • Draw near to the Most Holy: receive His peace, joy, and love as you keep His commandments by faith in Jesus (Heb. 10:19–22; Rom. 5:1, 5; John 15:11; Rev. 14:12, KJV). The Great Principles of Holiness are commandment-keeping people who have the testimony and faith of Jesus. • Today, choose the sanctuary way of the cross. Ask the Holy Ghost to form in you the one fruit with nine radiant multifaceted graces, that your life may be a living witness to the goodness of the Lord. “The strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving and lovable Christian” (White, The Ministry of Healing, “Help in Daily Living”). Let that argument be you—now.
