Test Context & Considerations: We decided to put ourselves in the shoes of a typical Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV buyer. We figured it would be someone with a family, likes to travel via car for holidays and such with the family. So space and comfort is priority and so is good mileage because who does not want to save money on fuel. Keeping that in mind and this being a PHEV, charging points might be a thing of concern. Remember, this PHEV's concept is EV first, not outright hp and torque. Hence, we set the car up to charge the battery while the car is on the move and the battery hits a certain percentage so the battery will never be flat. You can also force charge the battery when you reach your destination using the engine if a charger is not available. In our minds this is what a typical owner would do when going to a destination by a river or a beach, where finding a charging point would be difficult. Naturally, being an EV first PHEV, it does not make much sense to have a turbo engine as the engine's main job here is to help out when needed. If the person wants more power, there are a couple of good alternatives out there. A 1.5 L NA engine powering a 1800 kg car at high speeds would result in higher revs and louder engine noise. A turbo engine would obviously make lighter work at the same speed and the same weight but it would also incur higher costs in the long term. There are always pros and cons. ===== We decided to see what Proton E.MAS 7 PHEV can actually do. So we took it to Taman Eko Rimba in Sedim, Kulim, Kedah. The road to reach the park is much better than a decade ago. It's tarred now. Des scrapped the undercarriage of his car the last time he was here a decade ago. The road leading to the park is still narrow and less than perfect. Much less. It was windy and filled with imperfections which was perfect for warm up test. Needless to say the e.MAS 7 PHEV took everything in its stride. Next, we took it up the second steepest hill we know in Penang which can be accessed by vehicles - Bukit Genting or Genting Hill in English. The route up is not so bad. Still narrow, though. However, the route down can be daunting to some. Once again, the e.MAS 7 PHEV proved to be a nimble giant. The 5.2m turning radius is a feature that is underrated. The 360 camera proved very useful here, especially during the beginning of the descent. All in all, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV proved to be a legit family car which can take you comfortably and safely to most of your favourite "healing" spots. 0:00 Intro 1:17 Preamble 3:13 The route to Taman Eko Rimba 4:19 A short stopover at Taman Eko Rimba 6:08 The route out from Taman Eko Rimba 6:23 ICC in action 7:16 Hill climb to Bukit Genting begins 10:44 About the Occupant Detection feature 11:32 How to turn on Hill Descent Control 12:06 Small turning circle demo 12:25 Descending Bukit Genting 16:16 Our thoughts ===== Song: Clarx & Harddope - Castle [NCS Release] Music provided by NoCopyrightSounds Free Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/Castle Watch: • Clarx & Harddope - Castle | House | NCS - ... #proton #protonemas7phev #carreview #testdrive #automobile #automotive #review #suv #lynavasyvoyage
