Speaker: Paschal Anosike, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Director of the CAEL at the University of Wolverhampton The problems many small and regional businesses are facing are not merely due to the temporary economic shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. They face problems because their leadership rarely anticipate and prepare for the global challenges that require effective crisis leadership, especially in semi or non-autonomous settings which define success for today’s organisations and tomorrow’s. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses have been narrowly structured around mainly autonomous self-contained, traditional functions such as cash-flow, human resourcing, marketing, customers, strategic planning and so on. Whilst these are important, the pandemic has shown that these functions on their own are hardly the building blocks of success in today’s business environment. The volatile systems of supply and demand present new organisational challenges namely; crisis management, diversity and teamwork, remote working, ethics and resilient programmes for which these traditional functions are largely inadequate. To rise to these challenges, business owners and organisational leaders must integrate the philosophy of crisis leadership in their new vision of success during and post-COVID-19 pandemic. During this session, you will gain insights into: Effective crisis leadership Being the best leader you can in uncertainty Tips on renegotiating business contracts (e.g., rents) Tips on answering difficult employee questions Inspiring everyone for change in uncertainty Speaker: Paschal Anosike is Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Director of the Centre for African Entrepreneurship and Leadership (CAEL) at the University of Wolverhampton.
