Late season hiking in Washington can be a bit of a gamble now. The weather forecast for today looked promising, but unfortunately smoke rolled in which I was not expecting. It was totally clear on my drive out and for the first few miles of the hike. However, at some point the smoke moved in, enough that I could even see the haze when looking out through the forest immediately next to the trail. Once above treeline and out into the meadows, I knew my original plans would have to change. I was hoping to finally summit Mt Forgotten instead of only stopping at the Meadows, but the combination of reduced views from the smoke, and the smoke itself causing weird physical feelings, I thought it was best to cut the hike short. That being said, I obviously still really enjoyed being out in nature, and the rest of the trail was in great condition. One of these days I will get to the top of Mt. Forgotten.
