This recipe is quick, beginner friendly and requires simple ingredients available at home. Ingredients :- 1 cup or 220 g - Masoor dal / Red lentils 2 and 1/2 cups - Water 2 tbsp - Ghee 1 cup - Chopped & washed spinach To taste - Salt 1 tbsp - Chopped Coriander leaves 3-4 nos - Peeled and thinly sliced garlic cloves 1 inch - Ginger (chopped into julienne) 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp - Red chilli powder 1/4 tsp - Asafoetida Method :- Firstly wash the dal properly and soak by adding 2 cups of water in masoor dal for about 30 minutes in a bowl. Then after 30 minutes...add the soaked dal along with water in a saucepan...add turmeric powder and bring it to a boil on medium flame. After that slow down the flame and allow to simmer it for about 15-20 minutes. You can adjust the consistency of dal by adding 1/2 cup of water if it thickens. After that remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk the cooked dal lightly. Then add 1 tbsp ghee in a pan , heat it and then add spinach along with salt. Saute the spinach until it gets wilted for about 3-4 minutes on low flame. Then add it into the dal. Mix well. Adjust the salt according to your taste. For tempering add 1 tbsp ghee in a pan, heat it and then add ginger and garlic. Saute it until the garlic gets only lightly brown on low flame. Then switch off the flame and then add asafoetida and red chilli powder in it. Pour this tempering over the prepared dal. Serve hot with rice or rotis !
