1. Introduction Respiration is a biological process in which living organisms break down food (glucose) to release energy. This energy is used for growth, movement, repair, and all life activities. Respiration occurs in all living organisms including humans, animals, plants, and even microorganisms. 2. What is Respiration? Respiration is the process of releasing energy from food inside the cells of the body. It mainly takes place in a cell organelle called the mitochondria, which is known as the “powerhouse of the cell.” 3. Types of Respiration A. Aerobic Respiration Requires oxygen Produces a large amount of energy End products: Carbon dioxide and Water Equation: Glucose + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy (ATP) B. Anaerobic Respiration Occurs without oxygen Produces less energy End products differ in organisms In humans (during heavy exercise): Glucose → Lactic Acid + Energy In yeast: Glucose → Alcohol + Carbon dioxide + Energy Oxygen goes to the lungs. Oxygen enters the blood through alveoli. Blood carries oxygen to cells. In mitochondria, glucose breaks down to release energy. Carbon dioxide is removed from the body by exhalation. 6. Respiration in Plants https://images.edrawmax.com/article/scienc... Oxygen enters through small pores called stomata. Carbon dioxide is released. Respiration in plants also occurs in mitochondria. 7. Importance of Respiration Provides energy for body 📘 Simple & Clear Description (For School Video) In this video, we learn about Respiration, an important life process in living organisms.
