PART 2 - We follow on from last week with our epic encounter with the split 27s pod as they travelled up from the Shetland south mainland up and around to the west of the island. We followed bull 34 & gang all along the coast in the pouring rain but it was well worth it as we had an encounter meters from the shore with 152 (a member of the pod). It is so amazing to be able to get so close to wild orca in Scotland from land and each time is just as special as the last. The 27s pod are known for coming close to shore in search of their favourite prey - seals and porpoises. At the time of this recording the pod was still split into two pods (this 5) and then the other 3 members including bull 72 on their separate adventures! Orca/Killer whales can be seen around Scotland year around but are more often seen between April-September. October & November can be good in Shetland however this year has been a lot quieter than usual on the Orca front. These are wild animals so things can always change and a lot of luck is always involved. Being able to see Orca/Killer whales in the wild in the UK is such an incredible feeling and nothing compares, we hope you enjoy this encounter as much as we did!
