What exactly is a landfill and how does it work? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️ These are questions a bulk of the population probably doesn't consider on a daily basis, but most of us contribute. Landfills earned a reputation for negatively impacting public health and the environment before the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) was passed in 1976. Since then, modern landfill design is more than meets the eye, with ample forethought and creativity involved in order to mitigate or reverse aspects of harmfulness. I was lucky enough to tour a new cell being built at the South Side Landfill in Indianapolis, IN. Curt Publow provided a behind-the-scenes tour with impressive knowledge and information to show us what happens after your trash is out of your hands. Curt has been working in this field since 1987, so he is definitely the guy to ask! Check it out:
