On Thursday, September 11th, 2025, I traveled 150 miles to spend two nights at the state park campground at Colton Point State Park. Colton Point is situated on the Pine Creek Gorge, commonly known as “the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon”. There are two state run campgrounds on the edge of the gorge. This one and Leonard Harrison, which is on the opposite side of the canyon. The campground at Colton Point is often referred to as the “tent campground” as it offers no amenities like electricity at the campsites. Facilities are pit toilets and potable water is available from a holding tank situated near the outhouse. While it is mainly intended for tent campers a few of the 21 sites could accommodate a small travel trailer, pop up camper or small RV. Please note that because I did not mention several numbers does not mean I omitted them. There are no campsites 8-9-10-11 & 12. I don’t know the reason for this. I have included a link to the Pennsylvania Department of Natural Resources where you can find a map of the campground by searching for Colton Point State Park.. Let me also state that I am totally baffled by the price structure for this park. Since there are no reservations taken here I attempted to calculate what I was going to pay via the honor system at the check in kiosk. I went expecting to pay $33 for two nights which would include a discount for senior citizens. When I got there I found a totally confusing rate schedule posted. I took the envelope back to my site to fill out after I set up. While doing so, a park ranger happened to be patrolling the campground. She stopped to talk so we discussed the fee system and she figured my cost for two nights would be $41.50. HOWEVER - on Saturday, while packing up, she came around again and told me she had made a mistake and refunded me $4.50. So ……. If you are inquisitive to exact prices it would probably be in your best interest to call the park office at Leonard Harrison before your arrival. https://www.pa.gov/agencies/dcnr Leonard Harrison State Park (570) 724-3061
