Camping In The Canyon - Colton Point State Park - September 11 thru 13, 2025

After a week of watching flip flopping weather forecasts I decided to second guess Mother Nature and made the 2-1/2 hour drive for a couple of nights of camping at the Pine Creek Gorge, commonly known as the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Colton Point State Park became my base camp as I hiked a few miles of the West Rim Trail, made the short drive to the Barbour Rock Overlook and ventured into the town of Wellsboro for a stromboli and liquid refreshment. The weather turned out to be absolutely perfect with daytime highs in the mid 70’s and overnight temperatures in the high 40’s. Campsite 19 proved to be an ideal spot to hang my hammock. Just to clarify my dilemma over the campground rates, yes - I had enough cash to cover the advertised rates, but I was expecting to have about $17 of my 50 left to spend on other things, if need be.
