Councillor Máirín McGrath nominated Burncourt Community Council for their contribution to the rural area in Burncourt and their commitment to the regeneration of the Glengarra Mountain Lodge and the events and activities they run for the wellbeing of the community. Burncourt Community Council (BCC) is a community based voluntary organisation. A major element of the work of the group is the provision and upkeep of Burncourt Community Hall. The council sponsors CES workers and participants under the RSS, collaborating continuously with local clubs, schools, and various organisations. The hall is available and is used on a weekly basis by Burncourt National School, Card Players, Flower Club, Drama Group, Sport Groups and others. Burncourt Community Council also organise various events and festivals throughout the year including Bealtaine, Summer Festival, Pumpkin Festival and provide the Hall for Drama Productions, Community Celebratory Events. The Burncourt Drama Group consists of fifteen members, men and women aged 30 to 75, established in 2012 with the primary aim of providing entertainment. Their performances have ranged from whimsical and romantic to farcical and slapstick, and when the occasion calls for it, they tackle serious and thought-provoking themes, often dealing with topical issues. Currently, BCC is engaged in a significant project aimed at conserving and restoring Mountain Lodge located in Glengarra Woods, a building of great historical and architectural significance. In 2015, they made the decision to investigate the restoration process necessary to bring Mountain Lodge back to its former glory, ensuring it remains a valuable amenity for the future. This led to the leasing of the building by BCC with the goal of both conservation and restoration. A Conservation Report was commissioned to guide this important restoration effort.
