(2 Nov 2016) ROZINA MUNIB, NAUMAN ARFEEN AND MORE UNVEIL COLLECTIONS AT THE CLOSE OF PAKISTAN FASHION WEEK WINTER FESTIVE '16 The elite of Pakistan's thriving fashion industry rubbed shoulders with a-listers, fashionistas and celebrities in an extravagant finale to the three-day Fashion Pakistan Week Winter Festive '16 that ended in Karachi Tuesday (1 NOV). Organized by the Fashion Pakistan Council, the event is in its tenth year. It is the major platform for established as well as emerging and young designers to showcase their latest collection. Bridal wear dominated most collections, with designers fusing traditional embroidery, thread work and craftsmanship with Western cuts and silhouettes to fashion new trends. Rozina Munib, who has been around since 2003, earned plaudits for her eclectic collection, titled 'Zindagi kay Rang' (Translation: 'Colors of Life'). A celebration of life, it also sent out a message of solidarity to women who face abuse and violence, epitomized by her show-stopper Mukhtar Mai, the gang-rape victim who is now a women's rights activist. "The name of my collection is 'Zindagi kay Rang' (Translation: Colors of Life). In it, we have used a lot of rich fabric, very expensive fabric like lame, French organza and all. The work and embroidery we did using dabka (spring type thread), zari (even thread traditionally made of gold or silver), nakshi (traditional embroidery form) on different kind of materials," said Munib. Another designer who used the platform to send out a message of love was Nauman Arfeen, with his Mughal-era inspired collection.\ Evoking a sense of serenity, Arfeen's 'Pukaar' (Shout/Call) collection used a spectrum of colors. Arfeen said there was a lot in this collection: "There were turbans, sherwanis (traditional long embroidered kurta for men), there were evening dresses for women. The color palette that I used was those that are the most popular during our festive winter season. That is why I played with maroon, pistachio green. The fabrics were diverse and eclectic such as net; there was embroidery; everything that a good collection should have and I hope you liked what you saw." Nida Azwer's collection took inspiration from geometric shapes and textured surfaces interspersed with detailed floral patterns . "Today, day 3, was more about the bridal wear that we are going to be seeing in Pakistan in the coming winter season, from velvets to like handwork and everything and it was really well embellished. For me, personally, I thought everyone was fantastic – from Saira Shakira to Nida Azwer who opened the day with what was a beautiful collection, and to Nauman Arfeen, who closed the day with a really, really amazing theatric collection. More than the collection, because he was focusing on menswear, I thought it was beautiful to see a lot of kids and everything on the ramp. I really enjoyed myself and the message that he had, 'to give love a chance' was also a lot of fun."," said fashion journalist Sumra Muslim. Saira Rizwan's bridal collection, titled 'Banaras' used darker shades over hues of red, coral, plum and blue. It blended together architectural motifs with traditional floral patterns. "I really like Rozina Munib's collection," said attendee Iqra Saqud, a regular at fashion events and an aspiring designer. "It was very sophisticated and elegant. I particularly liked the color palette that she used. I also appreciated the theme of Nauman Arfeen's collection and the way he ended the show. I think he's great, he's superb."
