"Begin the Beguine" is a 1934 popular song written by Cole Porter. Xavier Cugat and his orchestra recorded one of the first versions in 1935, with a strong Latin-American sound. As a drummer I liked the Latin rhythms. I remember my organ teacher giving me this one when I was 12 years old.....it was 7 pages long in the book, and I had it memorized and ready in one week, much to her shock. And this was on my first organ, the 1957 Lowrey Holiday. It is played here on my 1974 Hammond Grandee Organ, with a Leslie 700 speaker. "Life is Good" on the west side, "with 2 cats in the yard, and everything is easy 'cause of YOU" (lyric borrowed from CSNY). Summer is still hanging in there, I want you to do so, too.
