Hammond SK2 Georgie Girl (cover) “Georgy Girl”, played on my Hammond SK2 organ and bass pedals. The idea for this particular arrangement came from an old sixties “Hammond Hits” record I used to have as a boy. MORE INFO: Organ: Double manual Hammond SK2 with half-moon Leslie switch fitted to the front left hand side. Right-hand drawbars are set to 888875450, and left-hand drawbars are set to 008806001. I’ve used the Leslie122 simulator and tweaked the speeds, rise and fall times, eq, balance, and virtual mic placement to personal taste. The reverb is the SK2’s virtual “Spring Reverb”. I’ve used quite a lot of reverb because back in the day, the old Hammond organs I used to play had very little control over reverb - the only choices you had were either ‘off’, ‘reverb1’ or ‘reverb2’. Reverb ‘off’ was too dry and just plain awful, ‘reverb1’ was barely noticeable, so I always used ‘reverb2’ which, although it tended to make you sound like you were playing in an empty aircraft hangar, it was arguably the best of a bad bunch! Bass: Roland PK5 midi bass pedals driving a Roland BK7m sound module (the BK7m is sitting on a stand to the front left side of the organ, just out of camera shot). I’ve set up the BK7m a bit different from the norm. I’m using UPPER1 and UPPER2 on the BK7m for the bass sound (FingeredBs1). UPPER1 and UPPER2 are set to the same midi channel and have the same FingeredBs1 preset on them so the PK5 pedals play both parts (i.e. UPPER1 and UPPER2). I’ve set the upper and lower key ranges differently for each part so that UPPER1 and UPPER2 never sound together. The first 5 bass pedals on my PK5 pedalboard (low C to E) are sounding UPPER1 only and are set to a normal octave range, while the other 8 pedals (F to high C) are sounding UPPER2 only and are set to an octave below. These bass settings, although highly unusual, ensures that every note I play on my 13 note pedal board sounds punchy, especially the low C to E notes which can often sound a bit room-shaking and muddy if you use organ bass. The Hammond SK2 actually has very good internal bass pedal sounds which sound quite even over the 13 notes of the pedal board but, well, I just prefer a bass guitar type sound for my bass pedals rather than a traditional organ bass. Just a wee personal quirk of mine lol! Drums: I created the drums in Cubase and then transferred them to the Roland BK7m module to play the BK7m drum sounds. The drums are the only thing that are not being played live. And Finally...
