Jagaber Ali, a 56-year-old activist and a local AIADMK functionary was known for his crusade against illegal quarrying activities in the locality. While returning to Vengalur after prayer, a lorry hit him, leading to his death on the spot. His wife Maryam lodged a complaint alleging foul play and stated Ali had expressed concerns about receiving death threats from the illegal operators. The Thirumayam police registered a case and arrested four people, including lorry owner in connection with the activist's death.
