How to make a Lateral/Vikkel Braid

Hey guys! In this video I’m going to show you how to knit a lateral braid aka a Vikkel braid. A couple of things to note before watching the video. First, when knitting a Vikkel braid the stitches tend to become looser. In order to maintain an even knitting tension, you have to either keep your stitches very tight as you knit or switch to smaller needles. I prefer going down a needle size when making my braids. Also, I mention that you need to knit an entire round before starting your braid. You need to make sure that the round before your braid is a knit round. If in your pattern you end on a knit round before adding in a braid then perfect! No need to then knit an extra round of stitches. Let’s say the round before your braid is a purl round. If that is the case then you need to make sure you knit a round before beginning, otherwise your braid will look wavy and not sit perfectly straight.
