A new year has finally arrived. God has given us a fresh start. For many people, this is the best time to begin new goals, hobbies, or healthier habits. Perhaps you are excited and hopeful. But what if this year turns out to be a difficult one? What if, in this year, God allows you to grow deeper in the faith and requires you to experience difficult trials or be in a place where you do not want to be? I am not being negative here. In this world where we live, different circumstances happen: both good and bad, both desirable and undesirable, both blessings and calamities. These are all part of life. My question to you is: would you aspire to live with courage? Would you live in faith, believing that whatever life brings, your hope and devotion to God will not be shaken? As we begin to study the Book of Daniel, we are shown an inevitable reality in Daniel’s life. He lived in a very difficult time. He was exiled to Babylon along with those who survived the siege of Jerusalem. He was forced to live in a place where he did not want to be. But instead of blaming God, he learned to fully trust in Him, and he lived a life marked with great courage. Courage is an inner quality that many people need today. Sometimes, we tend to feel miserable and helpless when challenges come. Daniel’s story reminds us that with God on our side, there is nothing to fear or worry about. How can we live with courage? 1. Recognize God’s Sovereignty (vv. 1–2) 2. Resist Conformity to the World (v.😎 3. Resolve to Cultivate a Deeper Life with God (vv. 17, 20) GROWTH GROUP DISCUSSION: 1. Daniel experienced hardship and displacement, yet God was still in control of his circumstances. In what ways have you seen God at work even in difficult or unwanted situations in your life? How does recognizing God’s sovereignty help you face the new year with courage? 2. Daniel refused to compromise his convictions even under pressure. What are some areas today where you may feel pressured to conform to the world? What helps you stand firm in your faith when compromise seems easier? 3. God strengthened and blessed Daniel and his friends as they walked closely with Him. What habits or spiritual disciplines would help you grow deeper in your walk with God this year? What specific step can you commit to begin or strengthen this week?
