Zimbabwe has recorded single-digit inflation for the first time in nearly three decades, with official data showing year-on-year inflation easing to 4.1% in January 2026, down sharply from 15% in December 2025. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has described the development as a critical milestone on the road to durable macroeconomic stability, attributing the sharp disinflation to closer coordination between the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. Tighter fiscal discipline and consistent monetary reforms are cited as key drivers behind the turnaround. On this episode of Africa In Business, hosted by Thami Ngubeni, we examine whether this marks a genuine structural shift for Zimbabwe’s economy or a fragile moment of relief. Joining us on the line is Persistence Gwanyanya, Zimbabwean economist and Managing Director at Bullion Group International, who offers expert insight into the sustainability of the inflation gains and what lies ahead for growth, policy, and investor confidence.
