Grungy Junk /art journal “RAW SIENNA” She is approximately 17,5 x 13 x 6,5 cm. (6.9 x 5.2 x 2.6 inch) This very chunky and grungy journal has a trifold fabric softcover that closes with a linen strap. The outside cover is linen fabric (hand dyed with coffee and rust water). Upholstery fabric on the inside. The edges are embellished with coffee dyed lace and machine stitched around the edge and a bronze metal safety pin with a mixed media cluster. It has a flip up on the front and back cover. The flip ups are made from pages of a vintage album to collect postal stamps. They are attached to the cover with burlap twine and a linen strap. The strap wraps around the journal as the closure. The flip out on the frontcover has as a vintage doily as the focal piece with a bronze metal flower and vintage mother of pearl button. The bronze metal piece with leafs is part of the closure. It has a bronze metal nameplate. The bronze metal pieces are attached with embroidery floss. The flip up on the front hides a pocket, embellished with coffee dyed lace, containing a vintage button card and vintage darning cotton card. The flip up on the back has a burlap belly band on both sides. It has in total 218 pages (3 signatures and 2 pages made of a vintage album to collect postal stamps with burlap belly bands on both sides and attached with burlap twine). The journal has a very grungy look and feel with with lots of layering. I used many different types of paper for the pages, such as coffee dyed paper, color book pages, vintage glassine, antique atlas pages, antique music sheets, handmade Mulberry paper, antique Cinnabar rice paper, pages from vintage and antique books, vintage envelope, vintage glassine envelope, paper doilies, packaging paper and a Dutch first day of issue cover (FDC) with postal stamp 15 december 1964. The journal has a large pocket on the inside of the front and the back cover and a smaller pocket. Although the journal is heavily embellished with mixed media artwork, bulb pin with vintage mother of pearl button and bronze metal charm and antique papers, there is lots of space for journaling. Throughout the journal there are bellybands and pockets to hold ephemera (antique newspaper, vintage and antique memory cards, coffee and rust dyed journal cards. The edges of the pages are distressed with coffee and distress ink and hand stamping.
