With more than 70 institutes, around 32,000 employees and a research volume of 3.6 billion euros in 2024, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the largest research society for applied research in Germany, transferring scientific findings into industrial applications. At Fraunhofer ISE, Rhea Pöter is working on agrivoltaics: photovoltaic systems that combine renewable energy production with crop production and thereby solve the land use conflict. Dr Mohamad Bdiwi is working at Fraunhofer IWU on human-robot collaboration, aiming to facilitate the access to robot systems for companies and making the collaboration between humans and robots safer. Dr Alpha Tom Kodamullil’s research focus at Fraunhofer SCAI is on neurodegenerative diseases, especially Alzheimer’s. By using AI, she wants to combine patient data with scientific publications to find out whether there are already approved drugs that might be used to treat Alzheimer’s.
