Helldiver Cadet KodeX Journal Day 11 Day 11 on the SES Halo of the Stars. We're moving over to Vog-Sojoth, as there's now a minor order to liberate the ice planet. The first mission is retrieve valuable data, a nice simple in and out. What I hadn't paid enough attention to, was that this planet is incineration corps occupied. This sub objective to just collect the encrypted hard disk, was shockingly overdefended. This took a lot of time because of wave after wave, I expended a lot of ammo and a whole 6 minutes before getting to even the terminal though. Not my best performance, but at least it got done. The first few stages of the relays get done with no interruptions, so I jetpack over to the other side, align the satellite, which is finally when not just one, but two patrols come for a visit. The first is a genuine threat, multiple heavy devastators, so I laser those down, but the second is far less worrying, couple scout striders, but nothing really more than that. I jetpack back over and complete the objective. Seeing that there's still plenty of time left, I decide to take out the labs and the detector tower, the lab goes down easy, and democracy smiled on me, for when I tossed the orbital laser into the base surrounding the tower, for some reason, the tower went down too! I ain't gonna complain, I'm just leaving. I get the high ground on extract, and holy democracy the number of patrols, I was hoping for a peaceful extraction, apparently, the bots have other ideas. The pelican comes down and wipes out enough of them for me to just jump pack down and hop in. KodeX's notes: for some reason, the incineration corps base soldiers with the flamethrowers can keep up with me when full sprinting, and their guns have a dangerous range. The second and third missions were to sabotage air bases, it's not a mission I'm super attuned to. For these, I wanted to try the eagle strafing run, it has 4 runs, very low cooldown, and heavy pen, so it's worth it to at least see if I can take out the air bases with them. In order to avoid an engagement, I take the long way around to get to the first air base, and orbital laser it, I can just let the laser do the work and move onto the second, after all, I'm not paid by the minute here. At the second base, I take out every enemy I can from range before taking it out with a strafe, moving on. Once again, due to knowing the location of the detector tower, I figure that some so undemocratic needs to be taken out, and make it a personal mission to do so. The tower does end up getting a good few bot drops on me, so fight my way up during the third bot drop, to take it out with a hellbomb. The bot drop was luckily only two heavy devastators, right as a 4th is called I arm the hellbomb, and leg it for extract. Flawless victory, no notes. Now knowing the awesome power of the strafing run, I drop onto my final mission, where I land on a loaded POI, which gets a bot drop called on me. After removing all threats, I return to find some super credits, nice. I find a POI, get lit up by some heavy devastators. While I'm doing that, another patrol comes from behind. After surviving both conflicts, I receive one whole rare sample for my efforts. Reaching the first air base, I get some high ground and take out the first base with the laser, and then move onto the second, seeing a stratagem jammer on the way, I'm already assuming that it's close enough to the second air base to stop me taking it out, of which of course I was right. So now, while waiting for my call ins to refresh, I decide that taking out the jammer is the best idea. The stratagem jammer is a hell of a fight due to the heavy devastators I was on the wrong side of, unfortunately, some bots come to say hi from behind too, so running in really is my only option. I get to the terminal, while keeping a vigilant eye on the bots around me, slowly exhausting more and more ammo as we go, just waiting for the moment I can finally call in the hellbomb to remove the jammer. One of the bots got lucky and broke my arm, and with my ammo running REALLY low, I call a resupply outside the base, and the hellbomb democratically blows the jammer to smithereens, freeing me to take out the second air base. Thankful to have use of my stratagems again, I strafing run the final ship, finding a SEAF SAM site on the way to extract. Not my favourite side objective, but y'know what? I'll take it. The last port of call, since there's still over 20 minutes on the mission, is a rogue research station, so I take that out and leave. Thanks to the awesome power of the orbital laser and the SEAF SAM site, I extract with no issues. KodeX's notes: even if it takes a bit longer, the scenic route is always worth taking.
