Who needs more sleep, younger or older people ? - Sleep Myths Debunked It's always best to watch the entire video so that you can see the step-by-step explanation I use in my practice helping clients. But here are some chapters for you: 00:00 Introduction to debunking the sleep myth about younger and older people 01:54 Teaching Sleep Skills for Life 02:32 Age group 1: 20s and 30s and the most common sleep myths 06:32 Age group 2: 40s and 50s and the most common sleep myths 09:39 Age group 3: 60s and 70s and the most common sleep myths 12:12 Conclusions to who needs more sleep In today’s video, we’ll have a bit of fun when it comes to this next group of sleep myths that we’ll debunk. How much sleep you need depending on your age is often a much debated topic, not necessarily scientifically. But I’ve heard so many misconceptions and myths about this over the years, depending on what age group you are in. Even I had my own thoughts and beliefs about sleep, sleep problems and insomnia when it comes to how many hours of sleep I thought I needed. The sleep need for adults when it comes to hours is quite a variable thing. I see this with my client work all the time, mainly because it’s not just about the hours but how truly optimised your sleep actually is. So let’s talk about what is recommended for each age group and what I’ve seen in my practice working with clients in pretty much all the age groups. Whilst it’s recommended to aim for 7-9 hours of sleep for adults, but we all know that it is quite a wide range. In today’s video, I’ll walk through the 3 main and bigger age groups: 20s and 30s, 40s and 50s, 60s and 70s and share with you what I see in my sleep coaching practice. Naturally, because I work with clients who have long-term and often complex sleep problems, another part of this question is really about looking at what you’ve got going in in your life personally. If you have any questions about what I shared with you in today’s video or other myths or advice you’ve seen online, feel free to let me know.
