What ever happened to the SEGA Power Surge?

At the 2023 Game Awards Sega dropped a game trailer that created a lot of buzz. It wasn’t just for a single game, but rather five….five new installments for classic Sega franchises that have been dormant for decades: Shinobi, Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage. They called it the “Power Surge” and it was supposedly the mark of a new era for the company. But over a year has gone by and Sega has yet to ever revisit the Power Surge concept, and they’ve revealed nothing official about any of these games. Instead they announced, at the 2024 Game Awards, three entirely new games: virtua fighter, sonic racing, and some kind of Yakuza spinoff. What’s going on? Did Sega drop the Power Surge?
