CPA Video: The role of Parliamentarians in upholding the separation of powers and the Commonwealth Latimer House Principles in the smallest jurisdictions The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association played a central role in the establishment of the Commonwealth Latimer House Principles on the Separation of Powers and continues to promote its values today. Here, Parliamentarians and experts highlight the importance of the separation of powers between the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary to ensure effective governance, scrutiny and democracy in the smallest jurisdictions in the Commonwealth. This includes the role of financial management, scrutiny and Public Accounts Committees. This video was filmed at the CPA Small Branches Workshop in April 2025 hosted by the Tynwald Isle of Man Parliament. With thanks to our partners at the Commonwealth Secretariat, Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel (CALC), Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association (CMJA), the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) and the Commonwealth Association of Public Accounts Committees (CAPAC).
