The extended essay is a great opportunity for you as an IB Diploma student to explore a topic you're really interested in. It involves doing independent research on your chosen topic and then writing up your ideas and findings in a 4,000-word structured essay. The goal is for you to develop strong research and writing skills. You'll get to dig deep into your topic through intellectual discovery and creativity. Your finished extended essay should present your research in a logical, coherent way appropriate for your subject area. The aims of the EE are for students to: ~ engage in independent research with intellectual initiative and rigour ~ develop research, thinking, self-management and communication skills ~ reflect on what has been learned throughout the research and writing process.
