Presto non tanto OVERVIEW Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58, composed in 1844, is one of his most ambitious and mature large-scale works. It stands as a monumental contribution to the Romantic piano repertoire and is often considered Chopin’s greatest sonata in terms of structure, emotional range, and technical demands. HISTORICAL CONTEXT The Sonata was composed after a turbulent period in Chopin's life, around the time of his stay in Nohant (George Sand’s country estate). It followed his earlier sonatas (Op. 4 and the famous “Funeral March” Sonata Op. 35) and reflects a more mature and refined compositional style. Unlike the darker, funeral-themed Sonata No. 2, this one is more lyrical and classically balanced, although still deeply expressive and technically complex. The sonata was dedicated to Countess Emilie de Perthuis, a patron and friend of Chopin. PERFORMANCE & INTERPRETATION The sonata requires a pianist with maturity, technical control, and poetic insight. It has been recorded and performed by nearly all major pianists, including Rubinstein, Horowitz, Argerich, Pollini, and Zimerman. It's often regarded as one of the most demanding pieces in the Romantic piano repertoire. ✨ Beethoven's Masterpieces (sorted by Opus) • L. v. Beethoven's Masterpieces 🎶 Beethoven Symphonies • L. v.
