Today 18 April 2018 is Akshaya Tritya, which is a very special and auspicious day. For ISKCON Nagpur it meant the realisation of a vision that Srila Prabhupada had way back in 1975. Finding the appropriate land had been a long struggle, but finally it was happening. It is with great joy that the ground breaking ceremony or bhumi puja of the three acre land for the new Sri Sri Radha Gopinath Temple and International Vedic Cultural centre took place at Empyrean City, MIHAN. The program commenced at 9am. A huge tent equipped with a stage, chairs, VIP seating and a projector screen was set up. It was filled with ecstatic, bright-faced devotees eagerly waiting of HH Lokanath Swami Maharaja to arrive. The purohita and all the donors were seated around a beautiful and colourfully decorated yajna shala. Sri Sri Gaura Nitai presided over the event. It was wonderful to see so many devotees ready and excited about the once-in-a-lifetime chance to offer oblations to the sacred fire at this bhumi puja. Immediately after the yajna, accompanied by melodious kirtana, everybody made their way to the back of the tent for the ground breaking ceremony in an easterly direction. HH Lokanath Swami took the hoe and struck the ground five times amidst the loud cheering of “Haribol!”. The hot atmosphere reverberated with transcendental sound vibrations. Many devotees followed suit. Thereafter we all made our way back to the tent for the presentation by Paramjit Singh Ahuja, the architect. He skilfully guided us through a power point presentation which gave us a first hand view of the new temple. Mr. Saraf who donated the land spoke next and expressed his appreciation for the design of the new Lotus temple. Many devotees came forward to express their support and encouraged everyone to assist in fulfilling Srila Prabhupada’s dream to build a home for Sri Sri Radha Gopinath. Lokanath Swami Maharaja reminded the assembly of Srila Prabhupada’s desire to have a temple in Nagpur and read out a letter written to Ashish Roy in 1975. Many devotees came forward to pledge their support and donations and all those who had already donated to this project was thanked. A feast was served out lovingly to all the devotees and everyone enjoyed it with great relish. It was evident that Mother Bhumi Devi was truly pleased with this sacrifice and all signs point to a successful project. May all those devotees who served in this event be blessed with transcendental bliss and bhakti.
