Kurdish Hospitality Is Pure Class

Today we experienced Kurdish hospitality at it's finest here in Zakho. This was our last day in Iraqi Kurdistan so we hit the streets to see what we could get up to. Straight away we found a shop full of goods imported from Turkey. While rooting we found a marlborough cowboy hat and a little knife, we tried to pay but the shop owner would not let us! We then hit the Zakho bazaar and Leesh tried to buy herself some perfume, again the shop owner would not let us pay. Next we went to check out a little fruit and veg market, here a man gave us some free carrots then another kind man said he would buy us anything we want... We picked a couple of kiwis and were on our way again. While wandering around Zakho we stopped for some fresh pomegranate juice and baklava which turned out to be one of the most beautiful sweets I have ever eaten. Zakho is known for its ancient stone bridge on the river so we went and checked it out and enjoyed some of the city views. We also stopped by a cigarette seller to buy some goods to flog back home where they cost 15x the price jeeeeeez. Seen as we were leaving the country it would be criminal to not eat masgouf one last time, the holy national dish. We picked our live carp swimming around, our mate bonked her on the head, gutted her, threw some salt and sauce on top then stuck her on the wood fire. About an hour later the fish was ready and oh what a beautiful meal it was. On the way home we had some leftover Iraqi dinar we needed to spend so we tried to buy some biscuits in a local shop, in typical fashion the shop owner would not let us pay again!
