Song from 2000 Richard Séguin release "Microclimat". Co-written with long-time Séguin collaborator Marc Chabot, the song puts on equal levels two different kinds of emergencies, faithfully to Séguin's long-time beliefs. For Séguin, it's all very good for a country to aspire to freedom and to "shine", but this can't be done if individuals don't care for their close ones and for themselves. In this aspect, Séguin's work somewhat echoes Victor Lévy-Beaulieu's views on the topic, views VLB expresses elsewhere on this channel: "Independence begins in your own backyard"... or in your own family, as stated in "Dans nos silences". The video's picture track translates this in a perfect metaphor: a house is burning, and, in his attempt to reach the fire site, Séguin stumbles and falls into snow at almost every step, to symbolize the inner chains that disable him to save his home, furthermost his country. All in all, a fine, extremely arty music video, very contemporary in style. Québec video art at its best. The video posted here is a reworked edit from the original, which I ripped from Séguin's recent CD/DVD box set "Ma demeure". The original music track is a "radio edit" that runs about 30 seconds shorter than the album version. I simply eliminated the original sound and inserted the album version instead --which made it necessary for me to tamper the original video edit. I also made a significant change to the plot. While the original shows ONE horse standing in the field at the end of the clip, I decided to show TWO. The original edit may be seen on MuchMusic's website, in a harassing, insulting low-rez copy.
