The heart of the Boujloud (Bilmawen) festival still beats raw and alive in Amaragh, a small Amazigh village near Aglou, Tiznit (Morocco). This long-form video offers an intimate, unfiltered look at one of the most authentic and ancestral expressions of this sacred ritual — from the preparations with fresh hides to the culmination of the Boujloud dance with the Ahwash women’s ensemble in the village square. More than half the video focuses on preparation scenes rarely seen elsewhere: Men and boys unpacking and drying real sheep and goat skins, freshly taken from the Eid al-Adha sacrifice. Costume rituals: skins sewn directly onto their bodies, doused in orange blossom or rose water to balance the powerful odor of the raw hides. Masks are adorned with basil leaves, wildflowers, and personal touches — part practical (to soften the smell) and part symbolic (for protection, memory, and identity). Inside the house where the transformation happens, everyone who enters — including family and outsiders — gets whipped with goat or sheep legs, in a mix of playfulness and sacred transgression. This act echoes rituals of passage seen in many traditional cultures: physical discomfort or symbolic humiliation used to mark crossing into a liminal state — between ordinary life and sacred time. Once ready, the Bilmawen march through the village in rhythmic chaos until they reach the square, where the Ahwash ensemble (entirely composed of women in Amaragh) sings and drums in a circle. This is the ritual’s climax — the sacred dance begins, where chaos and order meet. After the dance, Bilmawen scatter across the village — intercepting cars, motorbikes, and pedestrians, continuing the ancient role of the masked figure as disrupter, protector, and initiator. This is more than a festival. It’s an ancient pagan pulse, still alive in Morocco. 📍 Filmed in Amaragh village, Aglou, Tiznit region, Morocco 🎥 Documentary footage | Cultural anthropology | Traditional Amazigh ritual ⸻ #Boujloud #Bilmawen #MaskDance #Amazigh #Culture #Masquerade #Tradition #Pagan #AmazighCulture #MoroccanTraditions #Ahwash #Amaragh #MoroccanFolklore #RitualDance #MaskedFestival #EidAlAdha #BerberCulture #Ritual #CulturalAnthropology #Morocco2025 ⸻ If you liked this video, please 👇 👍 LIKE, 🔔 SUBSCRIBE and 💬 COMMENT for more content! ⸻ 🌟 Follow us on our other profiles: Instagram: / tijanatimebomb TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dromenaworld?...
