Each year the UKRO (United Kingdom Rescue Organisation) organizes an event called The Festival of Rescue which takes place in different cities around the UK. In 2021 it took over the Quayside in Newcastle and Gateshead on September 17th and 18th. The event welcomed over 70 teams representing fire services from up and down the country with a whole lot of activities such as the Extrication challenge, Trauma care, Water rescue, and Rope rescue. The event highlights the intense training and activities firemen and women undergo on a daily basis. Events like this is something I don’t normally attend but after finding out the Shoring Challenge would include a coach I had to go and check it out. It was great to see the amazing work the fire service do on a daily basis around the world to keep everyone safe and help us in some unpredictable situations. The coach used was a Volvo B10M-62 (S290 TVW) which was new to Hedingham and District Omnibuses based in Essex which is part of the Go-Ahead group. The coach has since been withdrawn and is now owned by Alpha Recovery and was due to be scrapped. Well done to everyone involved in this event and thank you to everyone working on the front line keeping us all safe, hats off to you all!
