A review on another piece of homemade outdoor equipment: The lightweight down sleeping bag that I made for use in conjunction with my new ultralight backpacking gear system. I needed a light, but warm bag for ultralight summer hiking trips, yet wanted to keep my cost as low as possible... so I figured why not another DIY project? Instead of building a bag completely from scratch, I decided to keep things simple and affordable by recycling materials that I had on hand, or that were inexpensive and easy to obtain. For the shell of the bag, I used an old ripstop polyester bag that I had laying around, and gutted the batting from the interior. For a source of down, I acquired a down quilt for about $5. The final tally for this relatively easy project was: Approximately $5 in total expense, and a functional down sleeping bag that fit my needs by weighing in at around 24oz, and is compact as well. This bag is fairly simple to make and does not require a high level of sewing know-how. I included a brief overview tutorial on the making of this bag. If you decide to make one yourself, and don't find my video instructions very helpful, feel free to ask any questions that you may have. Thanks!
