Days after gunmen turned a family play park into a killing field, Ian spoke to the mom of Ameilia Hernandez, who was murdered along with the father of her child. The visit comes as police investigations continue into the brazen Carnival Friday attack that left Davaughn Toussaint and Amelia Hernandez dead and a community traumatised. The park was eerily quiet. According to sources, shortly after midday on Friday, February 13th, 2026, a vehicle pulled up along Jade Court. One armed man exited and opened fire on Toussaint, who lived a short distance away. He attempted to flee, but the attackers pursued him. He collapsed in the roadway not far from his home and died where he fell. But the gunfire did not end there. At the nearby play park, children were enjoying the carnival afternoon when the shooting erupted. Laughter instantly turned to screams as they scattered in panic. Hernandez, the mother of Toussaint’s infant child, initially ran when the first shots were fired. Realising her child was in the field, she turned back in a desperate attempt to rescue the infant. In the chaos, she tripped and fell. A gunman ran up to her and continued firing. She was struck multiple times in the middle of the field — the same space where children had been playing moments earlier. Police rushed her to the Couva District Hospital, but she was declared dead. Residents told I.A.N news that the community remains shaken by the brazenness of the attack, particularly as it occurred in broad daylight in an area meant for families and recreation, just as carnival festivities were underway.
