Like, it's none of your business, but when people just give you looks or just pass mean comment, it's very frustrating. And that's why most of us don't come out of the closet so easily. And it's very you know, it's very frustrating." Rohan Sangwan: "And when look at the government itself. They also have like not legalised gay marriages and all." 14. SOUNDBITE (English) Noor Enayat, 37, volunteer at Delhi Queer Pride: "When I came out there was next to zero acceptance. And I'm standing what, I came out in 2003. I'm standing literally 20 years later and I see massive acceptance. Times change. People change. People accept, societies change. There will be more change. Give it another 20 years. It will be a very different world. So I'm not going to be hopeless about it or say it's not happening. It's happening. Change is a slow thing. It doesn't happen overnight." 17. SOUNDBITE (English) Anamika Alung, 30, Supporter at Pride march: "When you're straight and if you want to put a title, you just walk out and you don't even wonder. But, you know, there are people in the community and in the society who are even afraid to come out because of the backlashing that they might get. So I think that is all the reason to support the queer community. Like, I completely believe in the diversity equity inclusion aspect that is in today's world. And that's why I'm here, this is the least we can do." 20. Wide of Pride march 21. Participant holding poster reading (English) “Born this way.” 22. Pride participant showing his costume and kissing STORYLINE: More than 2,000 members of the LGBTQ community and their supporters returned to New Delhi streets on Sunday after a three-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to press for equal marriage rights. Dancing to drumbeats, they carried rainbow flags, balloons and placards as they walked for more than an hour to the Jantar Mantar area near India’s Parliament. “It’s good, it’s fab. Because we are here to celebrate ourselves, and after three years,” said Vishal Rai, a 23-year-old participant. Their hopes have been raised by India’s Supreme Court hearing petitions on granting legal recognition to same-sex marriage. Most Hindu nationalist leaders say same-sex marriage is against India's culture.
