Adolf Hitler dreamed of creating a cheap, reliable “people’s car” that every German could afford, but Germany’s private automakers believed the idea was economically impossible. Rather than tell the dictator no, they turned to engineer Ferdinand Porsche, who agreed to make the vision a reality. That project became the Volkswagen Beetle—later an icon of 1960s counterculture loved by hippies and surfers—but its origins were rooted in Nazi ideology, forced labor, and brutal state control, revealing the dark history behind one of the world’s most famous cars. This is from part 1 of a two-part series on the Nazi origins of the VW Beetle - listen to the full episode here: • How Hitler Created the VW Beetle — and Why... #VWBeetle #Volkswagen #carhistory #hippiemovement #1960s #history #worldwarII #WWII #NaziGermany Subscribe: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...
