Haggin: Trains On The Former SP and WP - Union Pacific | BNSF | Amtrak | Foreign Power

Haggin is a very popular spot to watch trains in the Sacramento area. The former Southern Pacific mainline to Oakland flies over the Western Pacific mainline toward the Feather River Canyon. Before November 2009, Haggin was where all eastbound double stack intermodal trains would swing to head east on the Feather River Route, however after the notching of the tunnels on Donner that practice is now less common, Amtrak's Coast Starlight still regularly swings north on the former WP to this day. BNSF trains are seen with foreign power on some trains as they roll through Sacramento on their way to and from the Inside Gateway, as they move traffic in and out of the San Joaquin Valley. Union Pacific freights to and from the bay area are seen on the former SP, and Amtrak trains 5 and 6 make appearances as well as the San Joaquins running from Sacramento to Bakersfield.
