(Open belt and closed belt.) Belting is a term that describes making sounds in which you employ your mode one/chest voice in a range where your voice naturally would want to shift over to a mode to head voice. To my ear and in my experience, belting means 1. mode one chest brought into a range where the folds naturally would shift over into mode to head voice. 2. A relatively High laryngeal position, 3. a relatively closed phase ratio in the vocal fold vibration, and 4. usually a divergent tract shape, though this can be variable If you’re new to my channel, my name is Dan Callaway.
