This lecture covers what soils are and what they are made of, how soils develop, and the important soil forming factors in Vermont as well as local geologic and land-use history. This is part one of the "Introduction to Soils" video series developed for "Building Soil Health on the Farm," a course designed to educate Vermont's agricultural technical assistance providers about science behind healthy soils, how to measure and assess soil health, and how to select and implement agricultural management strategies that build healthy soils. This project has been funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) under assistance agreement LC 00A00981-0 to NEIWPCC in Partnership with the Lake Champlain Basin Program.
